Path forward
An Invitation
Everyone is part of this conversation, even in silence.
None of us walks alone.
From the moment we enter the world, we inherit living communities that accompany us throughout our lives. We share them with those we love, we influence them through the choices we make, and in turn they influence us in ways we are only beginning to understand.
We now recognize that our bodies and our microbial communities exist in continuous conversation with one another and with the world around us.
That conversation is part of life.
Ignoring it does not make it disappear.
Listening to it does not guarantee freedom from illness or suffering.
But listening may help us choose a wiser path.
Ceela is our attempt to listen.
To observe carefully.
To ask better questions.
To create products that respect the remarkable ecosystems that have always been part of us.
We do not claim to possess the final truth.
We believe truth is approached through humility, careful observation, honest questioning, and a willingness to learn.
Every formulation we create is another step along that path.
We invite you to walk with us—not because we ask for unquestioning agreement, but because every meaningful conversation begins with someone willing to listen.
That is the journey of Ceela.
That is the spirit of Ceela Simple Science.
Why We Chose a Different Path
For many years we have asked a simple question.
If healthy skin depends upon a healthy skin ecosystem, what kind of products best respect that ecosystem?
Conventional skin care often relies on preservatives and other ingredients that remain active throughout a product's shelf life. They serve an important purpose by protecting the product from contamination.
Our question has been different.
Can products be created that remain preservative-free while supporting thoughtful skin care through careful formulation, specialized packaging, and fresh manufacturing?
That question has guided our work for many years.
Cleansing Without Continuous Pressure
Every cleanser reduces microorganisms on the surface of the skin.
The question is not whether cleansing occurs.
The question is what happens after cleansing.
Our formulation philosophy is to cleanse effectively during washing while avoiding unnecessary continuing antimicrobial pressure after rinsing.
Healthy skin is not sterile.
Healthy skin is an ecosystem.
We believe respecting that ecosystem is an important part of healthy skin.
Learning From Nature
One of the principal naturally occurring forms of conjugated linoleic acid is rumenic acid, named after the rumen of grazing animals.
For millions of years, ruminants have depended upon remarkably complex microbial ecosystems to transform grasses into nourishment.
That observation has inspired our thinking.
Rather than attempting to dominate biology, we ask how we might better understand it.
Rather than asking how to eliminate an ecosystem, we ask how to help restore a healthier one.
The detailed arguments about preservatives, resistance, quorum sensing, patents, and protocols belong in the Science Library, where readers have already chosen to explore the evidence.
One final observation.
The sentence that stayed with me most was not on the new page. It came from you in this conversation:
"Everyone is in this conversation."
I think that is one of the most profound sentences you've written.
It captures your view that humans, microbes, and the environment are participating in one continuous dialogue.
I would seriously consider making it the opening line of the Path Forward page:
Everyone is part of this conversation.
